Ahhh...that caffeine headache - nothing takes it away faster than a cup of coffee. That's the barb on the addiction hook. Which addictions are socially acceptable and which are stigmatized is a social construction. Thanks for your blog post and your compassionate work with the SUD population!

Thank you. So many lives impacted by SUD, and so few lives understand the affliction is a disease. In a way, stigma is the leading cause of death. Addicts are dehumanized by the terms addict or alcoholic etc. Substances are used to cope with living traumas, and when professional healthcare isn’t available or trusted.

And even when you've spent your life savings and retirement on professional health care with years of rehab and relapse, the addiction is more powerful. Apologies. Just needing a place to vent. Watching a loved one go back down the rabbit hole is devastating.
